Mann was he right!

Another quote, but this time not about writing, but about writers. Thomas Mann said, "A writer is someone for whom writing is more difficult than it is for other people." I agree, and I'll bet you do, too, if you're a writer. We agonize over each word, we polish and refine and edit and rewrite. People who aren't writers just dash off their words and move on to something else. Read their blogs. Read their Facebook posts. Read their emails.

But if you're a writer, especially if you write for an audience greater than your immediate family, it matters greatly how your writing is going to be received. I mean, that's your heart and soul you're putting out there for critique, never mind pleasing your toughest critic - yourself. Yes, writing IS harder for us. But, when we are satisfied, or close to it, there's little more enjoyable than having said well what you meant to say, even knowing it will never perfectly represent what you had in mind.

Oh, and by the way, I had a hard time writing this blog.
